May 2008 Update

Fri May 16, 2008, 3:29 PM
May 16th - Member list update, getting some things back on track with the club. If you are interested in assisting with moderation, let :iconobsidianwolfess: know!

:bulletred: This is a final reminder to all members and pending applications -- Your notes MUST be sent to either *ObsidianWolfess or =Idess. Do not send notes to this account, as it is infrequently checked! ALL notes being sent to this account from now on will be disregarded.

---------------------------------------

Hi everyone, *ObsidianWolfess here to tell you about the club that I started up with =Idess! Let's go straight to the best part of all.. Our FAQ!! Here goes nothing. =D

What does "digitigrade" mean?: These are terms that describe what type of legs a creature has (if they have any!). Digitigrade legs are legs that stick to the structure of the animal they originated from, though they may be slightly modified in order for the creature to stand on two legs. Most digitigrade anthros don't wear much clothing, but we suppose they could if they really wanted to. Usually a loincloth is all that is needed. ;) (Note that this does NOT mean we want yiff submitted here!) [link] is an example by =Idess of a digitigrade anthro.

What does "plantigrade" mean?: Plantigrade anthros are more like the idea of a cartoon furre, for the most part. Their legs are VERY if not, completely, humanistic. Except maybe having fur on their legs, they don't look anything like what they originated from. The "paws" are usually turned into feet, and so on. [link] is an example by =Visionwolf of a plantigrade anthro.

What we are all about: This is a community for all of the Deviant Artists on here that draw anthros with digitigrade legs. Critique may be sought here, and new friends made. Insert-magical-rainbows-here. =D

Why we made this guild: It's a mixture of two reasons. One, it's the way we draw anthros. Two, we probably don't like plantigrade anthros very much. Pretty simple, isn't it? I thought so too.

Rules of Conduct: You all knew these would come sooner or later. Anyone who breaks these rules will be removed from the guild. La la la, boo for consequences!
1. Constructive criticism is the only type of criticism allowed here. We don't want to see any of you wonderful people bashing others. That's not cool.
2. Absolutely NO racial slurs or sexism will be permitted. We don't want to be associated with those types of people. Really.

Submission Standards: What will and will not be accepted as a "submission".
1. Digitigrade art only! Obviously this is the first thing, because that's the point of this guild!
2. ABSOLUTELY NO YIFF! Tasteful nudity is fine, however. (Don't know the difference? Don't take the risk.)
3. In order to submit a deviation, contact either *ObsidianWolfess or =Idess via Notes or through AIM. Additional, though not needed information may include:
-Ammount of time your drawing took
-The medium(s) you used
-If there is a print or an original for sale
4. No scraps. Your deviation should either be line art or colored. If you want a scrap to be added, it will be put into the club's scrap area.
5. Make it look like you put effort into it! We want to have deviations that are well-constructed and look like they took some thought and considerate time. Proper anatomy is always appreciated.

How to submit your art: I forgot to put this part in earlier... Anyway, send your submissions as a NOTE with the link for your deviation to either Iddy or Obsy, and they will add it in.

How to join us: After you have read all of the above, and you STILL want to join up with us, send a NOTE to either *ObsidianWolfess or =Idess, with the subject being: "DGA". We will review your gallery to make sure you aren't solely a plantigrade artist. As long as you have a few (or many) digitigrade pictures, we will accept you and note you back. If you like, you might want to just link us to pictures you feel are your best through the note requesting membership. At that time, you may devwatch the guild and add the icon into your journal. Yes, you must put our icon in your journal.

"Digitigrade legs are legs that stick to the structure of the animal they originated from, though they may be slightly modified in order for the creature to stand on two legs."

Ugh... found this through a google search strangely enough. Looking up digitigrade for the hell of it. Being the grammar/spelling/correctness Nazi that I am, I should point out that this isn't what digitigrade technically means. It's a foot structure where the pressure is placed on the "digits" (read: toes) instead of the foot in it's entirety. Much more practical for quadrapedal movements than erected bipedal. Still, for the few anthropomorphic things I draw, I find it more fun to design characters with digitigrade feet.

I have a tendency to stick closely to a standard digitigrade leg while drawing, which is to say, the foot takes up approximately half of the leg itself, while the rest is shortened from that of a bipedal creature. A lot of people seem to just draw plantigrade legs and add slightly longer feet on....

Ugh, I'm going to regret my correctness nazism, considering I'm not friend of the furry fandom >_>

And then, for a solitary, fleeting moment, the universe was absolutely, perfectly silent

I know full well that they stand on their digits (toes), as does most everyone else. For sake of giving people a mental image, we chose purposely to describe it the way we did.

Thank you for your concearn about what a digitigrade is and isn't.
